OUR HORSES
La Castellaccia is a stud farm as well.
Our horses are particularly from an almost unknown breed in Italy, AKHAL-TEKE', from Turkmenistan (elder Soviet Union). It is the most ancient saddle-horse breed in the world.
Some archaeological excavations made in Anau near Aschabad, proved that some horses very similar to Akhal-Teké were bred since 2000 B.C.
The name comes from a warlike people, Tekés, that raised this breed in the desert region of Kara-Kum, and particularly in Akhal oasis.
Its conformation: thin, long and flat muscles, long back and croup, very fine head and big and clever almond-shaped eyes. Its ears are long and its nostrils are big and similar to those of camel’s. It has a long upright neck, long limbs and tough articulations, strong and slim tendons and its croup is muscled. The tail is low and possesses sloping shoulders.
Its coat: coat is the typical characteristics of this breed. It presents some metal reflexes varying from golden, silver or bronze. Its skin is thin and coat is short and soft like silk. The very constitution of its coat is particular since it looks like small hollow hose almost transparent protecting against cold and helping light reflection since in their origin country there are temperature ranges reaching even 50 degrees during the day.
Its character and temperament: extremely brave and lively, very faithful and mild towards the owner. It may be sometimes rebel and obstinate with strangers.
Its qualities: big reliability and speed. It learns easily and is a good jumper. It is noted for its endurance on long marches and for its grace.
